Lennart Ginman was born on March 2, 1960
and was a Finnish citizen until 1978.

Lennart Ginman’s most important projects as composer and producer:

2007
• Ginman nominated for the STEPPEULV 2008 AWARD by the Association of Danish Music Journalists (which includes journalists from all the major newspapers and free newspapers).
• Releases the GINMAN/Jimmy Jørgensen album ”Deep” (Universal Music). All songs written and produced by Ginman. The band is on tour twice in one year.
• Ginman participates in ”The Official Tribute to ELTON JOHN” where he produces and records the number ”Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word”.

2006
• Ginman begins the electronica/jazz project GINMAN/Jimmy Jørgensen.

2005
• Concerts in Copenhagen as well as the Aarhus International Jazz Festival with the group GINMAN Featuring Claus Hempler, with a newly composed repertoire in collaboration with singer Claus Hempler.
• Bandleader in the street basketball project ”Jazz Meets The Streets”.
• Ginman’s composition ”After Dark” used in Paprika Steen’s film ”Lad de smaa børn”.

2004
• Plays concerts in Vietnam with new band, Ginman de Luxe. Musicians include Ho Hoai Anh and the Danish DJ Track72 (Malk de Koin).
• Composes the work “Hjemløs” (Homeless) with lyrics by Kristina Stoltz. Performed in The Black Diamond Theatre by the Copenhagen Art Ensemble.
• Plays Copenhagen Jazz Festival with own new band - GINMAN Featuring Oshima – in collaboration with Japanese DJ Tatsuki Oshima.

2003
• Releases 2 trio albums on Verve Records with the band GinmanBlachmanDahl. This is the first time a European group has ever recorded for the legendary American record label.

2000-2002
• Ginman composes and produces the music for 25 episodes of the TV crime series “Skjulte Spor” (Hidden Clues), the biggest dramatic production ever undertaken by Nordisk Film/TV3.

2001
• Begins collaboration with the artist Lisa Rosenmeier, resulting in the projects ”www.houseoflove.dk” (2001), ”The Extended Now” (2002), and ”A Temporal Twin” and ”Black Circle” (2003).
Creates the music for the Venezuelan choreographer Sara Gebran’s modern dance production “Fantasy of Boredom Dummies”. Also playing Theremin.

2000
• Writes the music for the musical “Snedronningen” (The Snow Queen), which enjoys a 3-month run in Copenhagen.
• Produces the album “Snedronningen” for Sony/Columbia.

1999
• Ginman receives 2 Danish Grammy’s: “Danish Producer of the Year”, and “Danish Release of the Year” (together with Steen Jørgensen).

1998
• The album “Ginman/Jørgensen” is released on Sony/Columbia, and is selected “Danish Album of the Year” by all the major national Danish newspapers, as well as the music newspaper Gaffa.

1997
• Begins collaboration with singer Steen Jørgensen from the band Sort Sol.

1995
• Ginman receives the JASA Prize, the Danish jazz critics prize of honour.
• Co-produces and plays bass on 2 albums with Cæcilie Norby on Blue Note Records.

1991
• Records “Live At Ronnie Scott’s” in London with the band Page One.

1990
• Releases “1991”, an album of his own music featuring the American pianist Kirk Lightsey.
• Tours Denmark with his own band.

1989
• Chosen as “Europe’s Best Young Jazz Name” as member of the group Page One.

1988
• Records the album “Beatin’ Bop” with Page One.

1987
• Plays in Germany, France and Canada with Page One.

1986
• Debut of the band Page One.

1982-84
• Plays first professional gig at the club Purple Door in Copenhagen with Joe Banks Blues Band and the American saxophonist Don Pender.

• Buys his first double bass and practices diligently...

Lennart Ginman, the music teacher (and student):
• Every year since 1997 Ginman has been responsible for arranging and leading elite summer classes and workshops in Denmark (Valdekilde) for jazz musicians.
• Holds periodic classes and lectures at music conservatories throughout Denmark.
• Has taken private jazz lessons in New York from Ron Carter and in Denmark from Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and has received classical instruction from Johan Poulsen.



Honours and prizes awarded Lennart Ginman:
• Nominated in 2008 for the STEPPEULV AWARD, given to the “musician of the year” by the Association of Danish Music Journalists, comprised of music critics from all of Denmark’s major newspapers.

• The album “Ginman/Jørgensen” is nominated for Årets Københavnerpris (Copenhagener Prize) in 1999,as well as the NAT&DAG Prize.
• Danish Grammy Award winners on which Ginman plays bass: Jen Winther’s Quartet, “The Planets” (1995); Thomas Blachman & the X-traditional Values, “Love Boat” (1991), plus an Icelandic Grammy with Sigurdur Flosason, “Stairway To The Stars” (2002).
